A well-made frame protects your artwork for decades — but a little care goes a long way. Follow these simple guidelines to keep prints, photographs, canvases and mirrors looking their best.

Light

Keep artwork out of direct sunlight. UV light fades pigments and paper over time. Hang pieces on walls that avoid strong afternoon sun, and ask us about UV-filtering conservation glazing for valuable or irreplaceable works.

Humidity & temperature

Avoid hanging artwork in bathrooms, directly above heaters, or against external walls that get damp. Rapid changes in humidity cause paper and canvas to expand, contract and, over time, warp or cockle. A stable, climate-controlled room is ideal.

Cleaning

Dust the frame and glass gently with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. If you need to clean the glass, spray a little glass cleaner onto the cloth — never directly onto the glass, as liquid can seep behind it and damage the artwork. Never use cleaning products on acrylic glazing; use a dedicated anti-static acrylic cleaner instead.

Handling & hanging

Always handle frames by the edges with clean, dry hands. Use appropriate wall fixings rated for the weight of the piece, and hang mirrors and large frames on two points for stability. For heavy or oversized pieces, ask us about professional installation.

Canvases

Handle stretched canvases by the timber bars, not the printed surface. Dust lightly with a dry cloth and keep them away from moisture and direct heat.
